Welcome to Ella's site!
Hi! My name is Ella Kathleen! I was born on Friday March 23rd, 2007 11:20pm (MDT) at RockyView General Hospital in Calgary. My birth weight was 6 lbs. 13 oz. or 3110 grams for those born after 1980.
The doctors were expecting me to arrive on March 23rd and in typical family fashion I was right on time! (note: Mommy and Daddy calculated the due date to be the 20th, but whatever) I have to admit though, that I had to have some help. Mommy started getting sick the day before I was born, so Daddy took her to the doctor on Friday morning. The doctor said that Mommy had high blood pressure, and that something was wrong with her blood, so she sent us to the hospital.
Mom says once Daddy got her to the hospital everyone was really nice except they kept poking and prodding her! Around 3:30pm the doctors told Mommy that she had HELLP Syndrome and that it was time for me to be born. The doctors tried to make me come out, but I didn't want to because it was so warm and comfy inside Mommy's tummy! After several hours (which Daddy says seems like several days) a few dips in my heart rate, and Mommy needing to wear an oxygen mask sometimes, the doctors said it was time for me to be born by c-section.
The Birth
The doctors took Mommy into the operating room around 11:00pm, she was scared she says, but Daddy says she was brave! At 11:20pm everything got really bright and cold, and I cried really loudly. It's okay that I was crying though, because Mommy and Daddy were crying too! Daddy came to see me in the operating room after the doctors got all the goop out of my lungs. Daddy is nice, he picked me up and I felt warmer. Then he took me over to see my Mommy! Mommy was very happy to see me, and she was glad that I was okay, and I was glad that Mommy was going to be okay too!
While the doctors were fixing Mommy, Daddy and I went to the baby nursery to have me weighed, measured and given some cream for my eyes and an injection in my foot. Daddy kept smiling and talking a lot, I can't figure out why, he must have been excited for some reason, I was just sleepy.
After they fixed Mommy; Daddy and I went to visit her in the recover room. The doctors say that her blood pressure was getting better almost right away! After that Mommy and I slept 'cause we were really tired.
My First Week
Only my grandparents (and Daddy of course) where allowed to come visit me in the hospital. Mommy arranged for Grandma Lorain to make Mommy's favorite chili for dinner, and bring it over. I got to meet Uncle Josh and Auntie Ange and visit with Nana' - Grandpa, Grandma-Grandpa, and of course "Uncle" Brad. Auntie Shelly had to come later in the week.
Mommy was very sore and tired. Daddy and I didn't see much of her for a few days because she hurt so bad. Some nice nurses came to help take care of her, and check up on me! Nana came and stayed with us for two days to help Daddy take care of Mommy and I, and Grandma Lorain came and helped us with laundry, and made Mommy feel better with big hugs.
By Tuesday the nurses told me I was back at my birth weight, and by Wednesday I weighed in at 6 lbs. 15 oz. I also got to visit the nice doctors again at their office, they said that I am perfect, and Daddy and Mommy said they agree. Whatever. (giggle)
Mommy was able to get out of bed by herself and visit with us by Thursday, though she seems weird...Daddy says it's because of the two Tylenol-3 tablets that she's taking every four hours....whatever that means?
